The second of six sessions for the Career Lifecycle Management (CLM) series saw Emily Buchanan, the National Careers Adviser for Engineers Australia discussing life After University – How to win that job?’ as well as Benita Husband from Connell Wagner giving her experience on Life After University from a practical perspective.
As the National Careers Manager, Emily provides career advice to members on subjects such as job searching, further study and career planning. It also encompasses giving advice to non-members on engineering careers and to generally promote the profession of engineering. Emily provided information regarding guidance on how to watch the industry, pointers regarding the application process as well as highlighting how important reputation is.
Benita provided the audience with a real life example of how she progressed through the early stages of her career. Amongst her key points were work opportunities overseas and cultural differences including language barriers, work life in general and the adjustments from uni to work.Some take home points from her presentation included highlighting that asking questions was important and techniques at group interviews.
